9 Cardinal Rules in Network Marketing

posted in: Network Marketing | 0

Network marketing is very rewarding, but often times very demanding business. Not because it’s so difficult to start and keep going, but because there are so many myths and beliefs about it, that it’s hard to stay positive and focused on building it.

9 Cardinal Rules in Network Marketing

Here are some of the rules I believe are essential for success in network marketing.

1. BE YOU

Be yourself! Don’t change into something you are not. You’ll be way more successful if you’ll do it your way. Of course, listen and learn from others, but don’t use their exact words, make them your own.

2. HAVE FUN

You are in this business to make your life better, not worse. No matter what you encounter (and there will be some rough days), remember why you started it. Enjoy your conversations, engagement and everything around it. You are selling yourself, your vision of success and people will join you, when they will see how fun it is, not how hard it is 😉

3. SHOW MORE PEOPLE

It’s numbers game, simple as that. The more people see your opportunity, more people will join. Don’t focus on few, that you think that might join (and let me break it to you – they usually don’t). Just move on next, and next, and next… Of course you’ll get better the more presentations and conversations you have, but your success still depends on how much people you see and how many times you show your opportunity.

4. YOU CAN’T SAY WRONG WORDS TO RIGHT PEOPLE

… and you can’t say right words to the wrong people. Those who will see value in your offer, will tell you. Those who will not, will tell you too. Don’t argue with them, don’t try to convince or persuade them.. it’s just not worth it. You both will end up frustrated, and you will not change their opinion. Which doesn’t mean not to follow them later, because…

5. NO MEANS NOT NOW

It might not be the right time. They might be focused on something else. They might really not have money for it at the moment. I remember when I first started – I saw the vision, I felt in love with the product and I thought to myself: “Oh, this is easy. I know exactly who will join and I’ll be millionaire in no time.” Of course I couldn’t be more wrong 🙂 I had no idea what I was doing. So I quit. And 3 years later I learnt so much about business in general, my mindset is completely different, so I better understand what it takes to build a business. And I’m forever grateful to my sponsor for calling me again and giving me second chance. It just wasn’t the right time.

When someone says NO, I never push them. They might give me all kinds of excuses and I handle them, but I don’ force it. But I keep the person in the loop, I made notes and I follow up in few weeks, months or even a year.

6. SOME WILL, SOME WON’T – SO WHAT?

Majority of people will never join. And that’s OK. The business or the product are not for everyone. Just don’t take it personal and move on. Again, it’s numbers game and way more people will say NO than YES. Your job is to find those that will say YES and that usually means going from one NO to another and another.

Failure is not opposite of success. Failures are stepping stones to success.

7. MAKE FRIENDS

Even though your goal is for people to join your business, you’ll make more enemies than friends by pushing and forcing them to join. Make friends, keep the connection and genuine interest and maybe they’ll join. Or maybe they won’t , but you’ll at least still have friends.

8. BE CONSISTENT

I think this is the point where most network marketers struggle the most. Some think like I was back in 2012 – I’ll call few people and I’ll win. Some are motivated and fired up for few days/weeks after the event and then they forget all about it. But in this business, the ones who put consistent effort in the business (no matter how small) wins the race.

9. DON’T QUIT

If you read #5, you probably noticed I quit the first time. And I’m still sorry for that mistake. But at least I got a second chance. However small steps and improvements you are doing, you’ll see results eventually. Of course it depends on your action, how soon those results will come, but if you quit, I can assure you, it will NEVER happen.

Good luck! You can do it!
